Driving force behind Iowa traffic camera lawsuits
IOWA CITY A profile of Jim Laren 63 a Iowa City native and lawyer who has led lawsuits challenging traffic enforcement cameras and pushed for a city owned utility. The liberal long time advocate argues due process guides government power and notes mixed success but says public scrutiny of camera regimes is rising. He trained at Harvard and Iowa and has worked with notable Democrats including Gov. Culver and Sen. Culver. He operates Laren Law Office with offices in Des Moines and Muscatine.

Uptown Marion Artway lights expand public art district
Marion expands its Uptown Artway with a May 2017 opening behind Seventh Avenue. Nine public art installations attract visitors and diners as part of a broader central corridor redevelopment. A Winter Light and Display fundraises through March 1 to enhance the district with seasonal decor and future phases plan depots, trees, banners, and canopy lighting. Donors are directed to Marion Chamber Foundation and city matching funds support future phases.
