Midwest refuge staff cuts threaten habitat and access
The U S Fish and Wildlife Service plans in the Midwest urge eliminations of 71 positions over three years due to budget gaps, with 35 jobs already unfilled. Habitat management and visitor services would drop 16 to 20 percent, risking non native weeds and reduced on site staffing at Driftless Area Iowa and Hamden Slough and Crane Meadows in Minnesota.
