Fallon attacks Judge over corporate farming donations
Des Moines Fallon accuses rival Patty Judge of accepting large donations from hog and corporate farming interests linking funds to policy choices. He cites Judge's disclosed contributions totaling over 40,000 from agriculture-linked entities and more than 35,000 from hog industry sources across 1998 campaigns. Judge defends industrial donors and criticizes Fallon’s past support for Ralph Nader. Fallon says he rejects PAC and corporate donations and plans further analyses of other gubernatorial rivals.

Methane fire at Sioux City plant caused by motor short
A methane gas fire at Sioux City’s waste water treatment plant resulted from an electrical short in a motor atop a digester. The blaze on December 19 was confined to the outside wall and held thousands of gallons of sewage, with methane leakage near the mixer motor unit highlighted by Aaron Kraft. The digester holds 970,000 gallons. Des Moines reports management changes for the Iowa Events Center and Wells Fargo Arena as Global Spectrum names Matthew Homan general manager and Scott Kavanaugh assistant. Holly Kjeldgaard moves to assist. The Iowa History Museum will host a Civil War flags exhibit February 16 to April 16 with re-enactors and flag preservation activities.
