Police probe ongoing into Joni Heims death in Cedar Rapids
Police continue investigation into the Thursday night shooting death of 18 year old Joni Heims at the Cedar Rapids apartment she shared with Kevin Doyer. Linn County Medical Examiner Dr. David Kresnicka ruled the death a gunshot to the chest. Doyer says he found Heims on a couch after returning from school. Heims and Doyer attended Kirkwood Community College. A friend says a Kirkwood instructor told police Doyer was in class at the time of the shooting. No gun was found in the apartment. Heims grew up in Monticello and spent time in a Catholic girls school in Illinois and at the Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo. Doyer is from Irwin, Shelby County.
