Passion Play Sponsored by Lions for Cedar Rapids Event
The Leunen Passion Play, claimed as the world’s oldest, will be staged by the Lions club at the Memorial Coliseum in Cedar Rapids on Feb 19 and 20. The production features 22 scenes and traces back to 1242, with the Meier family long tied to the role of The Christus. Joseph Meier, 33, translates the play into English and plans an open air version in Spearfish, South Dakota, to extend the tradition to the Black Hills.
