Capitol Notebook Seeks Amicus Briefs From Legislative Leaders
Senate Study Bill 3099 would require appeals courts to accept amicus briefs from leaders of both parties in state court challenges to laws. Individual lawmakers could join leaders briefs but not multiple briefs. The measure aims to clarify legislative intent and broaden input while preserving court approval requirements. Republican Sen. Dan Dawson and Senate colleagues supported advancing the bill, noting prior court rulings and the need for formalized input from the legislature.
