Axtell and Allerton of Rush Park
In Independence the Rush Park estate bred record trotting stars Axtell and Allerton. Charles Williams built a racing empire around the 40 acre fairground with a half mile track, draining fields, and breeding lines from Mambrino Bay stock. Axtell set a 2 year old trotting world record at Rush Park in 1888 and later raced with Allerton at Cedar Rapids Driving Park.
