Labor shed links roads to urban jobs and rural tax gains
A 2003 Iowa study shows the Technology Corridor labor shed spans 20 counties with workers commuting up to 50 miles each way. The corridor reaches Polk to the west and Moline to the east, supplying Linn County with 770 workers from Black Hawk County and 28 daily commuters from Wapello to Johnson County. Benton County provides over 5,300 daily workers to Linn County, while improved highways expand the labor force and local tax revenue for urban areas.
