Iowa panel urges state to build hazardous waste storage facility
A draft report from Iowa's Select Advisory Panel on Hazardous Waste recommends the state construct a facility to store toxic wastes from Iowa firms, arguing private developers lack profitability. The panel envisages a $3.66 million landfill with $1.3 million yearly operating costs and potential for a $5 million future incinerator, or a long term storage facility as an alternative. The panel will forward findings to the Legislature after a February decision by the Water, Air and Waste Management Commission.
