Winds and Snow Create Havoc Across Eastern Iowa
High winds and blowing snow halted traffic and caused numerous accidents across Eastern Iowa. A 25 car pileup on Interstate 380 near North Liberty prompted emergency response while a seven car crash on I 80 near Amana involved no direct collisions. Safety officials reported multiple wrecks on highways 149 and 30 with several injuries treated at Mercy Hospital. A Cedar Rapids school bus overturned injuring no students, and many roads were drifting shut with visibility near zero to 200 feet.

Ida Grove Benefactor Leaves Large Estate to Salvation Army
Ida Grove businessman and former Iowa legislator J. Wesley Graham died December 21 1976 leaving an estate possibly near five million dollars. Most of the estate will be placed in a trust with income earmarked for the Salvation Army plus small specific bequests to Cornell College Ida Grove Methodist Church and the Christian Home for Children. Graham who had no prior association with the Salvation Army died while linked to Richard Hagemier of Ida Grove.
