Iowa House backs farm crisis resolution to seek federal help
The Iowa House approved a nonbinding farm crisis resolution calling on Gov. Branstad to seek federal action and urging Congress to hold hearings. It notes 34000 Iowa farmers near insolvency, 37 percent drop in land values since 1981, rising farm debts, and potential losses for farm businesses and banks. The measure, already passed by the Senate, aims to prompt federal policy action without creating an immediate moratorium.
