Hartwig, a 6-2, 210 pound defensive end from Ellsworth Junior College, chose Iowa over other offers. Ellsworth coach Vern Thomsen calls him the best defensive end he has had, better than Andre Tippett, with a 4.9 second 40 and strong intelligence. This follows Bill Glass also joining Iowa as a walk-on or scholarship recipient from Ellsworth in the same year.
