Marion Crime Wave Hits City Budget and Manpower
Crime in Marion rose to an all time high in 1980 with 130 violent crime reports and 2,233 total crimes, up sharply from 1970. Police say manpower and funding are stretched, causing fewer traffic citations and slower responses while officials seek relief through hires and crime prevention programs. Local figures note rising crime tied to economy and substance abuse, and urge coordinated prevention amid staffing limits.

Law residencies urged for new lawyers in Texas
Nebraska Chief Justice Norman Krivosha, chair of the National Conference of Chief Justices task force on bar admissions, urged at the Association of American Law Schools meeting that law graduates should pursue specialized residencies before practice. Nonresidents would become uncertified general practitioners who must identify problems, provide emergency services, and refer to a specialist.
