Budget stalemate drives Iowa cuts plan and cautions
Lawmakers debate a 110 million starting point to erase a projected shortfall with GOP priorities. The package calls for 88.2 million in targeted cuts, 4.5 million from unused property tax credits, 25 million shifted from economic development and 4.3 million for indigent military spending. Critics warn cuts threaten higher education, public safety and human services while supporters note slower revenue growth and prior carry over.
