Iowa President warns cuts threaten access and student success
University of Iowa President Sally Mason described a proposed under one percent higher education cut as painful and harmful to plans for student retention. She noted $55 million in state funding cuts and a 400-employee reduction over 18 months, with stimulus funding fading and the need to optimize costs while protecting education. Republican lawmakers seek a $25 million cut to the Regents budget, pressuring Senate and Gov Branstad to adjust the bill.
