Conrad Man Injured Fire Destroys Oak Grove Apartments
Conrad resident Robert Schleisman, 53, was hospitalized at University Hospitals in Iowa City after a Sunday morning blaze at Oak Grove Apartments on South Alice Street. The four unit building was a total loss. residents escaped unharmed. Fire Chief Kent Higgins noted the fire started in Schleisman's apartment and a state fire marshal would inspect the scene. Fire crews from several communities battled the fire for about seven hours. Conrad, a 1,000 population town, sits about 60 miles northwest of Cedar Rapids in Grundy County.
