Paul to testify in Cedar Rapids shooting trial

Evan Paul 22 of Central City will take the stand in Linn County District Court to defend himself in a second degree murder trial for fatally shooting Don ald Cope Jr. at a Cedar Rapids gas station on August 16. Eyewitness Jenny Hanson testified Paul was friendly before the confrontation and that Cope struck him, while prosecutors say Paul shoved Cope and began the fight.

Bush HHS pick wary of Roe reversal clash with Bush

President Bush’s nominee for health and human services secretary tells lawmakers he does not want Roe v. Wade overturned. Bush, meanwhile, labels the 1973 decision an American tragedy and urges reversal to antiabortion activists gathered in Washington for the annual rally. About 67,300 attended the demonstration as protesters marched to Capitol Hill.

A Des Moines Planned Parenthood survey of 500 Iowa adults in Oct Nov 1988 shows 60 percent favor abortion privacy between woman and physician, 75 percent support access to abortion if life endangers the mother, 77 percent oppose abortion in cases of incest or rape, with several questions on school based birth control and government funding. Margin of error plus or minus 4 percent.
