Plea Bargain Denied In Mt. Vernon Fraud Case

In Cedar Rapids federal court Judge Ed ward J. McManus rejected a plea agreement for Scott Voeltz a former Cedar Rapids man now in Atlantic Beach Fla who pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud tied to a Mt Vernon based bogus business operation. Voeltz sought probation in exchange for cooperation but the judge did not bind to any promised suspended sentence and the discussions stalled after a recess with the government stating it would only recommend probation not guarantee it.

Iowa House weighs 65-foot trucks in Iowa legal push

The Iowa House backed moving ahead on a measure to overturn a December IDOT ruling that limits twin-trailer trucks to 60 feet.
