The Dow Jones industrial average fell 10.56 points to 775.54, its steepest daily drop of the year, in a session with 11 million shares traded. Chicago grain and livestock markets show wide price ranges for cattle hogs and sheep, with Monday estimates noting receipts of 5,000 hogs and no sheep estimates.
Prices paid on Saturday for Cedar Rapids hogs were steady with Friday’s figures for 200 to 230 Ibs butchers at 27.25 to 27.75. Sows over 300 Ibs were 23.50 to 24.00, with weight-based deductions for heavier cattle and off-grade packs. dressed meats show declines in pork cuts and hams across several weight ranges.
Kenneth Rudolph and Loren Rudolph of Minneapolis appeared in Clayton district court on charges of breaking and entering connected to a Strawberry Point school burglary on December 24. They pled not guilty and Judge John C. Oberhausen set February 17 as the trial date. both are jailed in lieu of bond.

Fire gutted the Frank Larry Sevcik farm home nine miles northeast of Toledo early today.
