Improbable fight: coach battles cancer with team support
Kirkwood Community College assistant men’s basketball coach Jacobson, age 35, faced a devastating crash and a surprising brain tumor diagnosis. Doctors initially labeled a grade 3 or 4 astrocytoma with months to live, then revised to a rare grade 2. He chose to keep coaching through chemotherapy and radiation, inspiring his Eagles with a rally speech amid treatment and adversity.
