Senate race shapes Iowa Senate leadership at stake
Democratic senators choose a new president to replace Joe Welsh after his resignation as Senate leader amid ethics probes. Nine candidates competed with Gronstal Horn and Boswell as early frontrunners, while Varn floated as interim option. Welsh’s sudden exit follows the Iowa Trust Fund scandal, leaving leadership unsettled as session work continues.
