The Iowa Liquor Commission discussed enforcement gaps across beer venues, citing a survey of 612 operators. Findings show 46 percent sold no liquor, 34 percent bought from state stores, 12 percent from both state and out of state sources, 5 percent from outside Iowa, and 3 percent bootleg. Officials urged uniform enforcement, Sunday closing, minor-restriction penalties, and permit-holder responsibility. Police and sheriffs leaders proposed premises-based permits, fingerprinting, stronger city-council revocation powers, and stricter controls on dancing in beer spots.
