Motor bridge reopens drawing visitors to Turkey River site
The 90 foot limestone mill area near Motor in Clayton County Iowa reopened the Turkey River bridge December 8 after a 21 year closure. Joe Phelps of Laveen Arizona proposed to Elisha Refle on the bridge three weeks later amid plans for a June wedding at relatives’ home downstream. Local officials expect tourism to grow around the bridge and mill, boosting canoeing and local visits as Christmas lights and future improvements attract travelers.
