Ray Smucker rises from farm boy to Horace Heidt impersonator
Blairstown native Ray Smucker, once a farm boy and department store clerk, impressed Horace Heidt during a Paramount theater engagement. After letters and a telegram, he earns a spot with Heidt’s troupe, joining Jean Fahrney as Heidt discovers local talent. Smucker built his act from early improv with voices like Winchell and Kate Smith. He plans to leave for a month to join the Biltmore engagement.

Tax on Bond Incomes Faces Constitutional Challenge
Dr. Lutz argues a bond tax would raise city budgets and lower property values while doubling interest costs for every tax dollar. He cites 1921 debates led by John N Garner and urges delaying any radical reform through a constitutional amendment until states participate.
