Pakistan aid plan delayed

President Carter will defer for a short period his request to Congress for approval of an aid package to Pakistan. Sen. Frank Church said the delay follows negotiations with Pakistan and other nations and allows time for further consultation on the proposal. The plan initially called for 400 million dollars in military aid, which Pakistan said was insufficient.

Tragedy at Colombian bullring leaves 162 dead

In Sincelejo a wooden grandstand collapse at a bullring during a weekend bullfight left 162 killed and about 500 injured. Officials cited softened ground from heavy rains and overcrowding as causes as hundreds lined the stands. Police and Red Cross teams moved victims to hospitals and towns nearby.
