Bricks Origin Lost in Marion History

A century ago Marion boasted a brick industry with kilns likely south of town near Indian Creek. Local residents A E Granger and Marvin Oxley recall the Kiln site and bricks used in Eckhart furniture building at 560 Tenth Street, while others attribute ownership to Phillip Riley who arrived in 1855 and died in 1892. The industry faded with the 1900s, yet many old brick structures remain, including 590 Tenth Street and the McGowan home.
