UPI reports hogs 25 cents higher with lots 230 pounds and up showing strength were 17.75 to 18.00 per cwt. Cattle receipts and steer prices rose modestly with bulk good and prime slaughter steer bids around 28 to 31 dollars. Sheep and lambs posted gains with slaughter lambs 50 cents higher and ewes steady.
New York AP reports stocks widened gains late Wednesday with steel and oil shares leading the advance. Volume was about 3.9 million. pivotal issues gained fractions to over a point and several selections rose around three points.
USDA-des+ignated market receipts Wednesday 50 000 actual Tuesday 68 000 weekly 96 000 yearly 77 000. Trading steady to 50 cents higher with storm conditions slowing some sections. Hog price ranges by weight and grade listed from No 1200-220 Ibs to 400-500 Ibs with multiple classifications and prices.
Waterloo market data shows hog prices with price increases across weight classes from 160 pounds up to 400 pounds. Listings include ranges such as 160-170 pounds at 13.50 to 14.00 and 360-400 pounds at 13.50, reflecting a 25 cent uptick in the overall market.

Prices on the Cedar Rapids hog market moved a quarter higher for good No 2 butchers and sows. Meaty No 1 high yielding hogs sold 50 cents above the standard quotations, while No 3 overfats stood 50 cents below.

Quaker Oats Co announces the appointment of Norman W. Smith of Cedar Rapids as manager of feed sales training and dealer development. He and his wife will reside in Arlington Heights Illinois. Smith is a Chicago native.

California woman Katherine Scheel sues the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul and Pacific railroad in district court for 150000 alleging negligence at the Milwaukee depot. She slipped Aug 28 while checking a ticket to Los Angeles and claims wax on the floor caused the fall. She says she suffered back and cranial nerve injuries and facial paralysis.
Tuesday saw a new legal action over the party wall. The Union building owners led by J W Darragh and family seek 35000 in damages from Loop Storage garage owners Frieda Padzewsky Sonia Padzewsky Sylvia Padzewsky and F S S Co and tenant Paul Stockberger for alleged damages to the shared wall near the Union building opposite the Roosevelt hotel.
Linn county board of Supervisors revoked the Melody Lane tavern beer permit on recommendation from the county attorney after numerous complaints of beer law violations. The Cedar Rapids owner Burnell D. Schuetzle and the tavern off Sixth street road near Hawkeye Downs were affected.
Gerald R. Van Dyke sues David Baker and Gary W. Jeffords for 243.41 dollars over a November 19 1957 Cedar Rapids theft of his car. The vehicle overheated and the transmission failed after seven hours, with a judgment possible against the youths when they come of age. Other suits include Elizabeth Dake versus Fred and Florance Fellmer for 332.60 and Chapman Sports Center against Eugene W. Chapman for 120.78.
The county board appointed three trustees Tuesday for the new Maine township fire district No 3 in the Central City area. Avon Shakespeare was named as sixth deputy coroner to a three year term. Linn County named Herbert Pollock for a two year term and Kenneth Balpervisors. Dr Alfred Iderston named for one year. Brendl of Central City named on Dr Richard Navratil’s recommendation as coroner. Other deputies starting January 1 include Drs Percy Harris Carlton Lake William Kettlekamp Cedar Rapids and Drs Charles Merulla Gerald Sunner Marion.
A 3-year-old boy named Mark walked a mile to fetch aid for his mother Elaine Bryan who was pinned under her overturned car in Hurlock Maryland. Jerome Thomas of Cabin Creek called for an ambulance and freed Mrs Bryan. she suffered no serious injuries.
Wharton Hattie U. Strout 87 of Marion died in a Marion nursing home after living there five months. She moved from Milton Ia to join her son and another son lives in Westwood NJ. Her body moved to Wellborn funeral home Milton for services and burial.

In Linn district court on Wednesday Josephine Kahler 44 of 1034 Sixth St NW pled guilty to a false check charge for passing a 40.78 check at a clothing store on December 5 and must make restitution by March 20. Kathryn Delores Carter 29 of 1627 Second Ave SE pled innocent to a charge of furnishing beer to minors after allegedly serving 20 year old youths in a tavern at 850 Second Ave SE Monday night.
District court rules Nesper Sign and Neon Co. may terminate the lease for signage on property owned by J. P. Conway and A. E. Kelly at 528 First Ave NW. Conway and Kelly had sued for $300 rent due in 1958.
