Average weekly pay rose to $14.37, with total CWA weekly cost about $75 million.

President Roosevelt announced a liberalization of the veterans economy act with a $21,092,205 increase in allowances. The order raises pension rates for service connected disabilities and widows, expands hospital treatment to non service connected cases in emergencies, and adjusts burial allowances and other veteran aids. It also modifies eligibility rules for certain pensions and salary limits for federal employees receiving pensions.
Edward G. Bremer, 36, bank president, held for 200000 ransom after kidnappers attacked his car in an outlying district. Blood on front and rear seats suggested heavy bleeding. Adolph Bremer, father and brewery owner, urged authorities to continue the search as a Washington detail and federal agents joined the case.
