The Iowa DOT and Iowa State Patrol report rising ATV and ATV US fatalities since 2022 road use expansion. Rural intersections and excessive speeds drive many crashes, with 2024 seeing about twenty fatalities. Proposals include hands free driving bills and corridor enforcement to curb high speed, while seat belt use remains a factor in survivability.
Iowa recorded 351 traffic related deaths in 2024, down from 378 in 2023, per the Iowa State Patrol. High speeds wrong way driving unbuckled seats and distracted driving contributed to the high totals.
The Iowa State Patrol reports more drivers cited for 100 mph plus since the COVID-19 onset. In 2024 high speed tickets fell from 2023 levels but remain well above pre pandemic figures.
