Transit Strike Threat Looms Over New York Power Sale
NEW YORK (UP) New York's 32 000 transit workers threaten a strike possibly within days over the proposed sale of half the municipal power system to Consolidated Edison. Michael Quill president of the Transport Workers of America says the union would paralyze all city transportation to protect 1500 power plant jobs and municipal ownership against monopolies. The city would lose 5 000 000 yearly to buy needed power and the sale was to proceed without a public vote.
