Train car Airbnb brings a roundabout dream to rural Palo

Karla Sibert, former travel agent, repurposes decommissioned train cars into an Airbnb on her Palo property once part of the Chicago Mil waukee Railroad right of way. The project, named A Lil R&R, follows a lifelong dream dating to 1995, combining a historic caboose and a Ball Mason jar carriage in a unique rural lodging venture.

A Lil R and R railcar rentals emerge in rural Illinois

A vintage train car lodging concept named A Lil R and R operates on a rural Illinois property near Frankfort and Sibert’s yard. The two cabooses from 1912 and the 1940s sleep six in a 900 square foot area with a deck and walking trails. About 107 reservations booked in the first year attract railroad enthusiasts online.
