A Reuters report notes US doctors often bill uninsured and out of network patients far more than Medicare accepts. Anesthesiologists radiologists and emergency physicians show the largest excess charges, with half of anesthesiologists around six times Medicare, interventional radiologists about 4.5 times, and emergency physicians about four times. The study analyzed data from 429,273 doctors across 54 specialties and found regional variation in excess charges.
