The jury was closing arguments in the Daniel Munro case over the February Des Moines killings of three teens. Prosecution argued first degree murder with possible motives and premeditation while defense faulted the speculative case and noted circumstantial evidence.
Carol Monk eight of 3534 Elmwood Court NE remained in good condition at Mercy Hospital pediatrics with chest injuries after her mother Janet Monk left a car stuck in snow on Wednesday. Carol slipped from the back seat as the car rolled downhill at Northwood and Birchwood drives NE and was run over by the right front tire. She is listed in the special care unit. The car ended in a snow bank down the hill.
Hiawatha City Council waived rules to pass a 26 page ordinance regulating cable service and awarded a 15 year franchise to Hiawatha Cable Communications. The measure sets installation and reconnection fees while clarifying enforcement and unauthorized hookups. Snow removal budget rises to 5 000 for next year with current under spend aided by mayor Guthridge’s unpaid plow duties.
The Council on Wage and Price Stability enlarges its workforce by 90 to help implement the anti inflation program. Chairman Alfred Kahn cited a heavier workload and rising requests for interpretation of voluntary wage and price standards. No salary estimates were provided.
