Auto Plunges Off Viaduct Injuring Four In Prairie Creek
A car carrying four occupants plunged nose down from the Bowling Street viaduct onto railroad tracks Friday night. Driver Sandra J. Joslin, 24, and 13 year old Ronald Trader were admitted to Mercy hospital with multiple injuries but in good condition Saturday. Two Prairie Creek residents, Laurie Starr and John Rife Jr., were treated for minor injuries and released. Charges pending. A separate accident at First Avenue and Ninth Street West injured Lillian E. Coufal, 47, who was admitted in good condition with neck, shoulder and back injuries after her car was struck and pushed into another vehicle. No charges in that crash.

Glue Sniffing Arrests Highlight Youth Drug Workshop
Cedar Rapids police Captain Arthur Zimmerman told a Washington High School workshop that from January to October 1968 minors arrested under the Uniform Narcotics Act numbered 17 boys and four girls, with 26 boys and 13 girls under a new glue sniffing ordinance from June to October. About 40 youths attended. Dr Leo Sedlacek warned that one in sixteen under eighteen who drink will become an alcoholic before twenty five and suggested alcohol is alcohol regardless of form. The panel also included Lois Emanuel and Gil Voss. Sedlacek disputed that marijuana leads to other drugs but said it is not physiologically habit forming.

James L. Flanagan, 21, of Ryan, was arrested early Saturday by Linn county sheriff officers on assault with intent to inflict great bodily injury. The charge follows a Thursday night incident at a Coggan tavern where a beer glass was broken and town marshal Lamir Havlik cut on the face.
