A federal court in Cedar Rapids canceled most schedules after a telephoned notice of a settlement ending the $15,000 damage suit of Charles J. Kalina of Nebraska against Glenn Henry Barth of Vinton. Barth’s counter-claim for $7,000 from a 1952 auto crash near Traer was part of the out-of-court settlement.
State Rep. Tom Joseph introduced a bill to properly advertise Texas by placing the slogan Tremendous Texas on license plates. The proposal seeks to promote state pride through a distinctive plate message.

Frank E. Graver of 1320 Third Avenue SE died Monday. Funeral conducted at 1:30 pm Thursday by Dr H Hughes Dill in Turner chapel. Born June 10 1879 near Lisbon he married Clara Haak January 24 1901. He lived in Cedar Rapids 34 years worked with Linn County road maintenance until retirement eight years ago and then with Graver Implement Co in Anamosa. Surviving: wife two sons Irving and Kenneth. five sisters Mrs Ray Blessing Mrs Ed Litts Mrs Jessie Carney Mrs Earl Leigh Mrs LaVerne Simmons. two brothers Lewis and Lloyd Graver. five grandchildren two great grandchildren.
Bill Vaughan of Quaker Oats outlined five steps to make dogs “good citizens” at the Roosevelt club event. He urged daily 30 minute sessions, use of a choke chain, and short leash work. He advised mild punishment with a newspaper and shared a water-dousing antidote for chasing cars.

David Lee Frohn died in a Cedar Rapids hospital at 11 55 a m Monday. Survived by his parents Glenn and Mrs Frohn of Cedar Rapids and a brother Glenn Richard Frohn Jr. Also listed are grandparents and great grandparents from Cedar Rapids Cedar Falls Lamont and Waterloo. R C Mitchell aged 67, formerly of Cedar Rapids and now resident of Vinton, died Monday at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines after a prolonged illness. Surviving are his wife Mabel, daughter Charlotte Mitchell of San Francisco, and five sisters. Military services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fry-Holland funeral home in Vinton.
Charles G Cars tens lifelong Cedar Rapids resident and World War II veteran died Monday. Galvin Services for John B. Jack Galvin of Lenoir North Carolina who died in Fort Lauderdale will be conducted in the Turner chapel at 10 30 am Wednesday.

The machine completes a full cycle in 25 minutes and can process items continuously, reducing typing and proofreading and saving salaries in the long run. Total cost with installation nears $9,000 as county offices report rising workload.
Frank Byers, 34, pled guilty to larceny in Linn County Court and received a suspended eight months. The judge suspended due to returning the television and the defendant being employed. Byers allegedly stole a 21 inch TV from Norma on Nov. 5 and sold it to Leo Boyles for 35 dollars.
Dale O. Beggs, 38, of Mt. Pleasant pled guilty to a false check charge in Linn county court. Judge Floyd Philbrick suspended a three month jail term on the condition of restitution for a $35 check written in Cedar Rapids January 3 to the Kozy Inn.
The will of Flora B. Cannon who died November 8 is admitted to probate. It grants Edward J. Cannon a life interest in Cedar Rapids real estate and leaves the remainder to daughter Maxine M. Wilson, who is named executrix without bond.
Keokuk county Sheriff J. Bud Wallerich sent Joseph E. Bates of the Norva hotel to Sigourney to face a false check charge after Bates was reported wanted for writing several bad checks. A damage suit by Glen Schilling against Mrs. A. L. Fullerman was dismissed Tuesday by Schilling.
Victoria police report that motorists on Cadboro Bay road slowed to ten miles per hour after pranksters altered a 30 mph speed sign. The incident prompted a traffic alert and investigation by local authorities.
Iowa senator Frank Byers introduced a bill drafted by the University of Iowa Law Review to reapportion the senate on a population basis without constitutional amendment. It would create 16 single county seats and 34 districts combining counties, with varied county groupings.
The Iowa House began its first full day after organization by listing five bills for later action. Proposals include tighter fundraising disclosures for charitable groups and a 10 percent liquor price increase to generate at least 3 million dollars annually. About 100 children from the Toddville area in Linn County receive gamma globulin shots at Alburnett school to curb acute infectious hepatitis. Dr. James Barthel and nurses Marian Van Foesen Ina Horan administer the inoculations, repeated for Toddville pupils attending Alburnett. Limited supply restricts vaccination to direct contacts as cases rise in the area and Cedar Rapids reports increase, though officials caution it is not yet an epidemic.
Dr. James Barthel told The Gazette that infectious hepatitis, spread by person to person contact and via water or food, can also propagate through coughing or sneezing. Treatment centers on rest with six to eight weeks of recovery, vitamins, and a low fat diet during convalescence. Peak incidence is in late autumn. jaundice may be absent in many cases, making diagnosis difficult. About 26 Cedar Rapids cases have been reported since last year.
