Family sues Cedar Rapids over 15 fatal police shooting
A mother and the wife of Jonathan Gossman sue Cedar Rapids and its police, alleging excessive force and lack of probable cause after Gossman was shot 25 times during a 2015 traffic stop. The suit names City of Cedar Rapids, the police department, Chief Jerman, captains Long and Hembera, Sgt. Juilfs, and officers Bieber, Jones, Boesenberg, Garringer plus five others. It follows another late 2010s officer involved shooting case in the city. Dozens of animals found in Vinton home in welfare case
Police reported 500 to 1,000 animals inside a Vinton residence including rabbits rodents birds reptiles and more many malnourished and dehydrated. Four children lived there while parents cooperate with human services authorities during a warrant raid and animal removal by rescues and veterinarians.

Cedar Rapids homicide autopsy clarifies 2018 case
Anna Elise M Edge ton, 18, of Cedar Rapids, died from a gunshot wound in the Shamrock Apartments. Police say no one is in custody as they investigate Cedar Rapids first homicide of 2018. Edgeton was found at 316 Jacelyn Dr SW after responders were called. Edge ton’s obituary notes she graduated Metro High School in 2015 and worked as a certified nursing assistant at Living Center East. She married John Edgeton Jr. last August at Palisades Park. Six homicides were reported in Cedar Rapids last year.
