The ad listed twin beds dresser dining table breakfast table library table and other items.
An unmasked bandit entered the Postal Telegraph office at 316 Third Street SE and demanded cash from Edward Benedict, escaping with about $10 in cash. Benedict described the suspect as about 30, 5 feet 10, 175 pounds, red face, light complexion, dark eyes, two days beard, bluish gray coat and dark green hat. police launched a search.
Special to The Gazette in Des Moines reports that Harry Vickers the motor vehicles commissioner announced an investigation into the purchase of 39 new automobiles for the Iowa highway patrol by the outgoing Democratic administration. Republican figures disputed claims of waste and cited proper requisitions and low prices.
Louis Greenfield a New York milliner was indicted on manslaughter charges by the Bronx County grand jury for killing his 17 year old son described as an imbecile to end his suffering. The grand jury refused to return a murder indictment.
Federal Judge Charles E. Woodward granted government attorneys extra time to file answers to demurrers of 57 corporations and individuals accused in a milk price fixing conspiracy.
Eight men were booked on grand larceny and forgery for stealing 26 million nickels worth 1.3 million dollars from the city subway over five years. Ten others were questioned as Dewey’s probe into the subway loot continued. The scheme involved 30 workers and produced up to 1500 dollars daily.
Columbia University announced a new radio broadcasting system that eliminates static and extraneous noise. It uses a shorter wave range from about ten meters to possibly one meter and requires specially designed receiving sets. Bruce Brazauski, driver of a coal truck that toppled on Memorial drive SE, prompted a bus stop citation for failing to halt. The incident occurred within Cedar Rapids where no local ordinance governs bus stops.
Devota Coghlan was trapped beneath a truck after an accident on Memorial drive SE. Police and an autowrecker crew lifted the vehicle a fraction to free her, and she was taken to St Luke’s hospital with injuries including lacerations and bruises. Her father kept vigil, comforting her as rescue workers worked.
