Social Studies Class Sizes Highlight District Budget Balance

Cedar Rapids board heard executive director William Rainbow explain that math and writing take priority due to budget and academic goals, causing social studies classes to run larger in three large high schools. He cited 35 classes with 26 to 34 students and 28 with 5 to 25, with 25 as the district average. Moore and others noted potential impact but supported staffing choices to offset small classes in other areas. Also noted were resignations of two Kennedy High instrumental music teachers and a personal injury claim filed by Ruth Sickles for a 1980 bus collision.
