MLK Day weekend linked to Gaza protests and 2024 vote
As communities mark the Martin Luther King Jr holiday, demonstrations fuse King’s civil rights legacy with opposition to the Gaza war and the 2024 presidential election. The March on Washington for Gaza drew thousands near the White House, urging a ceasefire, hostage release, and end to U.S. unconditional aid to Israel. Bernice King emphasized nonviolence and unity, while Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church prepared a commemorative service and Democratic figures planned events in Columbia.
