Sub Zero Cold Creates Transit and Auto Start Crises
Cedar Rapids residents faced widespread car trouble as record low temperatures stalled engines and boosted demand for jump starts. AAA calls numbered 350 to 400 on very cold days, with stations overwhelmed and backlogs delaying service. Bus and cab fleets struggled to keep schedules while shops sold out winter equipment and batteries. Collins Radio offers a in-house starting service for stranded employees, aiding up to 70 cars daily.
