The Cedar Rapids board will gather public input over the next weeks and interview candidates March 8 and 10 for a new superintendent. Consultant Bill Attea will hold forums January 28 29 and meet with staff and students. The board aims to hire by July 1.
Cedar Rapids board approves a 22 foot wide Welcome to the MedQuarter sign on a hospital building at 625 A Ave NE and a Grant Wood mural. The project for Unity Point Health St Luke's will include two Wood paintings and a title panel. The mural does not require a variance and additional monument signs gain variances or new MedQuarter wording.
Marion Independent School District Superintendent Sarah Pinion announced plans to retire at the end of the current school year. The board noted six years of leadership guiding district growth, from Vernon Middle School to open enrollment and facility renovations.
Iowa City man Nathan Schloss faces trial on April 7 with a March 27 pretrial conference. He is charged with 18 counts of third degree sexual abuse and 22 counts of invasion of privacy for abusing an intoxicated woman between May and September 2012 and recording it. Police recovered the videos during an investigation into a cat abuse case involving a roommate. Police say multiple victims may exist. Schloss denies knowledge of the recordings. He remains free on bond with no-contact orders.
Des Moines based Drake University introduces Earl F. Marty Martin as its 13th president succeeding David Maxwell. Martin, ex Gonzaga executive vice president, will assume duties July 1 guiding a 5000 student private university with a global engagement focus and liberal arts tradition.
