Coralville Growth Fueled by Tax Increment Financing TIF
Coralville uses TIF to fund streets sewers and utilities in the University of Iowa Research Park and other areas. The city reports rising employment from supported firms including CIVCO and Zero Energy Systems and a sales rise from 167 million in 1997 to 722 million in 2011. Cited projects include Coralville Ridge Mall area redevelopment and Iowa River Landing with major openings and brownfields cleanup. Jim Fausett notes TIF boosts development and jobs while inviting caution about taxpayer risk.
