Grocer jailed after price law clash in Stockton

Charles Hawkins, a Stockton grocer, was jailed for selling a bottle of wine six cents below the state fair trade act. He plans to test the act in court and run for the board of equalization to challenge enforcement. He has feuded with the board for two years over beer and wine pricing.

Mild mannered husband confesses to wife murder in Pa

Frank Wyckoff 79 told police he was sorry he bludgeoned his wife Be linda 77 to death over nagging. He crushed her skull with a fur nace shaker and stabbed himself four times. Wyckoff, in critical condition, faces murder charges if he recovers. The couple lived in a basement home with grown children. Neighbors called them gentle and affectionate.

Slain Man Linked To $38,000 Theft

Cleveland detectives linked Louis M. Haddad to a $38,000 daylight bank holdup at Superior Savings and Loan Company. Officers shot and killed Haddad when he fled a home where a third suspect was approached, while $8,000 of the loot was seized. Bank robbers identified: Robert C. Andross, 24, and Richard S. Chamberlain, 22.
