State liquor split-case fee rises for first time since 1986
The Des Moines Register reports Iowa state liquor monopoly raised the split-case fee from 20 cents to 50 cents per bottle effective Jan 1. Retailers say higher costs will be passed to consumers on split-case purchases. some items may see slower movement as shops limit split orders.

Prairie Meadows rejects eight year lease proposal
Prairie Meadows on Saturday rejected a Polk County plan for an eight year lease. The land stays with Polk County while the non profit board runs the gambling operation. The county sought terms similar to the expired lease that yielded about 22.5 million dollars annually after taxes. A hotel project could raise taxes and affect revenue sharing and loan covenants. Until a new lease is approved by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission the current terms continue month to month.

White deer shot in Oakway Park under investigation
