Ul student’s racism claim rejected by appeals court
The 8th Circuit ruled Cheri LaBlanche failed to prove the University of Iowa College of Medicine dismissal was racially motivated. The court upheld the school’s non discriminatory reason for failing grades and found no entitlement to court appointed counsel after LaBlanche did not cooperate with appointees.

Casinos fined for underage gambling lapses in Iowa
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission fined Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona and Lakeside Casino Resort in Osceola $10,000 each for violations involving underage gamblers. A security officer stopped an underage woman at Lakeside after she tried to enter at 5:30 p.m. on Sept 24 and again at 7:15 p.m. after bypassing staff.

Iowa Regents Plan Not Open To All For Enhanced Retirement
The Iowa Court of Appeals ruled that enhanced early retirement packages offered by the Iowa Board of Regents were not automatically available to all university employees. The decision against Jack L.
