Kirkwood explores new financing as inflation hits
Kirkwood Community College faces funding hurdles for future building projects amid rising interest rates. The board unanimously hired Securities Corporation of Iowa as financial consultants and Chapman and Cutler as counsel to develop a preliminary financing plan using serial notes. A $10.7 million ten year levy provides part of the funding, and a May to July follow up will refine proposals. The district anticipates some levy money for equipment and maintenance and will pursue long term financing with larger investors. The board also outlined three international education programs and accepted the retirement of Joseph Hronik effective January 31.
