Linn County weighs court administrator plan
Linn supervisors discussed funding a district court administrator position to handle non judicial tasks. Harold Vietor said the county could pay up to 4000 dollars first year with most costs covered by in kind contributions. A state and federal financing plan would spur a two year trial before a full district fund and possible state take over.

Iowa City Ramp Bond Sale Barred
District Judge William Eady barred Iowa City from selling $2 million in revenue bonds for a parking ramp. The ruling requires meter enforcement and other costs be paid from meters before bond retirement and stops bond sales until proper funds are deducted. The decision endangers a $1,242,000 city share of urban renewal expenses and invites an appeal to the state Supreme Court. Separately Randy Washburn, 22, was arrested on assault and battery charges after allegedly striking his wife.
