Cedar Rapids report by Mike Richardson, Iowa's chief jail inspector, finds Linn County Jail clean and well managed and in compliance with state law. Population on inspection day was 235 of 244 capacity. Remodeling on the second floor will raise capacity to 400 by June.
Cedar Rapids Iowa district aims to raise cash reserves from 3.25 million to 3.75 million next year, prompting a 12 to 13 cent levy increase to 12.53 per thousand. The plan keeps most department budgets flat while building a 2 percent rise for building control. The district forecasts 4.19 percent more new money from state aid for wages and benefits, with April budget certification ahead.

United Airlines Flight 1094 from Cedar Rapids to Chicago returned to The Eastern Iowa Airport after an apparent engine thrust issue. The Boeing 737 landed safely with 49 passengers and five crew aboard at 12:20 pm. the flight was canceled and passengers rebooked. The cause was not determined by Tuesday afternoon.
