Valley fever sickens thousands in California fields
Berkeley reports a naval research team found valley fever remains undiagnosed in about one third of cases. About 87,500 people yearly in California's Central Valley, Arima and parts of Texas are affected, with 40 percent debilitated for weeks or months. The disease can be chronic for 2 percent and fatal for some, while tests and vaccines are under study.
