Tiling Jobs Pushed At Year End By Milt Nelson
Heavy tiling work in November and December 1965 in Eastern Iowa driven by wet weather mild temperatures and concern over 1966 payment programs. William Jasper of Dyersville co owner of Jasper Construction reports machines running nonstop from December into January. One job on a 340 acre Monticello area farm owned by Roy A. Miller involves 1600 feet of eight inch tile and 11000 feet of five inch laterals on 25 acres idled by government programs. Miller plans to expand to 240 acres and works with Linn county soil conservation district. Awaiting further technical help from conservation staff. Miller recalls a 1928 winter with 40 acres plowed by horses between Christmas and New Year.
